Top Things to do in Baltimore, Maryland.

Baltimore has had a very rich and long history. The struggle for freedom in the past has left its indelible mark, allowing everyone to see the rich history of this beautiful place, yet being a reminder of its past mistakes. Hence, serving as America’s conscience.
As Baltimore was just a stopover for us, we had no plans to visit the area and the hotspots. All we planned to do was to spend our day finishing up our work. However, after we spoke to our Airbnb host we decided to check this place out. This is also one of the reasons why you should stay at Airbnb’s! Nobody would know the place better than the people staying there. They told us that since we were already there, we should go out and explore the area, and even told us which areas were must-visits.
Thanks to that, we decided to go out and had so much fun that we even planned to extend our stay, sadly, we could not as the Airbnb was already booked.

Watch our Video below to Find out what Happened in Baltimore, Maryland America!

The following are the places that Jhanvi, our host, recommended to us.

Top Things to do in Baltimore, Maryland, USA

1. Fort McHenry

The chaotic history of Baltimore is most evident in Fort McHenry. The star-shaped fort built by McHenry had successfully defended Baltimore Harbor in 1812. It was certainly a watershed event for American history. The fort is located inside a park. You will have to purchase the ticket at the information counter before heading to the fort. You will be able to read up on Fort McHenry and also, watch a short film that was re-created and narrated of the battle against the British.
At the fort, you will be able to see many actors mimicking the past, there will also be some games for you to play. It is really cool! This and the maintenance of the fort is where your money goes to.
Opening Hours: Monday- Sunday 9:00-17:00

2. Patterson Park

We were on our way to Patterson Park after going to Fort McHenry but my ‘smart’ sister left her phone in the toilet so we had no choice but to head back the moment we reached Patterson Park!
We did not want to go back to Patterson Park after that but we saw the really cool Chinese pagoda from afar. It is really well maintained, the color of the pagoda was well maintained and had not faded off and the structure was still standing tall.
Opening Hours: 7:00-21:00

3. Inner Harbor

Inner Harbor is the place for everyone regardless of age. People can sit back, relax, play sports, shop, and boat all in the same place! This is probably the model that every city should strive for. For me, it is the definition of balance. There are lots of shops as you walk along the Inner Harbour as well. It is a very lovely place for you to hang out, have fun and enjoy! The Vibe is definitely great around this area.

4. Federal Hill, Baltimore

Federal Hill is a park for people that are looking for a place to overlook the beautiful Baltimore city, exercise and take a breather. Besides that, there is also an amazing scenic view of Baltimore City when you are up on Federal’s Hill. It is not a very long and tiring climb and it gives you a bird’s eye view of the city!

5. Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar

Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar opens every Sunday. I am glad we were able to make it. It was a really insightful place to see the culture! They offer a huge variety of food, ranging from American to Indian and many many more. They serve really good food.

There were many people selling different things; hula hoops, fruits, vegetables, clothes, and accessories! It was the place to be at on a Sunday morning haha.
Opening Hours: Sunday 7:00 -12:00

Tips/Advice to Maximise your Trip to Baltimore, Maryland.

1. Finding a parking lot in Inner Harbour

Parking is really expensive especially when parking in a garage. It costs almost as much as in Washington or even San Francisco. If you do find a meter parking lot, count yourself lucky unless of course, the meter is spoilt! That is what happened to us. We went around looking for another pay station but just could not find one nearby. The traffic police are really efficient as well so make sure not to leave your car without paying for the ticket!
If you are willing to walk, there are some parking lots available near Federal Hill that are free! If you cannot find an empty lot, there is meter parking along the road as well.

2. Driving in Baltimore is relatively easy.

You don’t have to worry about it unless you drive in the opposite direction in your home country.

3. Stay/ Accommodation/ Lodging

Most attractions concentrate around Inner Harbor. We stayed near John Hopkins University which was pretty near as well. Of course, there are other hotels that you can choose from! We stayed in an Airbnb! The host was really friendly and nice as she provided us with the best tips for this blog!
All in all, I hope this blog has served your purpose for reading this blog.
